Success doesn’t come in a day, but daily!

In today's society, we expect instant gratification and if it doesn't happen we are disappointed or want to quit. Just as I went to the gym three days in a row last week, so now I should have instantly lost weight, seriously I worked hard during those sessions where is the outcome? This takes me to a quote I heard from  Dr. Adolph Brown:

"The tree is in the seed!"

This is profound as everything starts with a seed! There are some key areas to attend to in helping this seed make it to its full maturation:

  • the planting
  • the cultivation of the soil
    • watering
    • fertilizing
    • weeding
  • the harvest

The Planting:

This is the envisioning stage, the time where you plant the seed for the desired outcome you want #paintthepicture.

In schools, it may be preparing your students for success in your class developing the outcomes you would like to see (i.e. everyone earning an "A").

The Cultivation of the soil:

This is where the work begins the watering stage of making the seed grow. For some that have aspirations of becoming a doctor, lawyer, entertainer/athlete and or something else you are passionate about...

What are you doing to water the seed? Are you researching what it takes? Are you sleep when others are watering their seed? I hear a lot of young basketball players say they want to play at the next level, I ask them "What were you doing at 5 am this morning?" most reply back with an " I was sleep" and my response is "The kid you are competing against wasn't sleeping!" This is so well encapsulated by Eric Thomas' "How Bad Do You Want It?" video which can be seen on the link below:

If you are familiar with gardening you know there is a continuous cycle of providing water to the plants in order to keep them growing. You have to do something to water your seed each day whether it is researching, asking questions, and practicing there should be some daily visiting of your seed. Success doesn't come in a day, but daily!

Along with the watering you have to provide some fertilizer in the mix, which can come through getting advice from some that have traveled the road you are heading down.  You should never be afraid to contact someone in the field or has accomplished what you are trying to accomplish and ask for advice or to shadow them for a period of time.

It is the continuous attention and focus that will lead you to the goal!

You also have to constantly speak positively to yourself there will be times where the growth may be slow or stagnate. You will also encounter naysayers (i.e. haters) that will give you all sorts of reasons on why you can't reach your goal! Just remember that you will get there little by little (#littlebylittle), each day you are getting closer than the day before!

Just stay stocked up with Haterade, to fend off the "Haters"!

This self-talk that you will need to do constantly is best illustrated by professional boxer Shannon Briggs in the linked Youtube video below:

Takeaways:

  • Step 1: Envision your goal and write it down. (Plant the Seed)
  • Step 2: Plan your steps. (Watering the Seed)
  • Step 3: Stay the course, do what you need to do to act on achieving it. Remove the obstacles. Take action. (Weeding and Fertilizing)
  • Step 4: Accmplish the goal. (Harvest time)
